Family Gateway Hub @ Howdon
The Family Gateway Hub @ Howdon (Howdon Hub) is situated in the building formerly known as Howdon Community Centre on Denbigh Avenue, Wallsend, NE28 0PP
Having originally been built for the community around Howdon we want to redevelop it for the community and we want to make sure that the activities that are provided there benefit local people. We want it to be a hub for family and community enterprise, encouraging local people to socialise, have fun and develop new enterprise ideas and in some cases linking to our important work in improving life chances for disadvantaged children and families.
The links below will help you find out about the activities and facilities at the Howdon Hub, make a booking or enquiry and volunteer to help transform it into a buzzing, exciting and purposeful building. For more information contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org
Activities and facilities
Activities – we regularly review the activities that we offer and would love to hear from you if you can suggest new activities for us to offer. Click here for a current activities timetable.
Facilities – the facilities at the hub include a number of rooms that can be used for training, group activities, parties (non–licenced), outdoor football and other games. We also have a fully equipped gym that you can use with an affordable membership offer, and a range of family support services that are part of our charitable offering and we want to help local people with IT needs and to start developing their own enterprise ideas.

Howdelicious Café at Howdon Hub
Named by two ladies from our local community in our competition, Howdelicious is situated in the heart of the Hub and offers a welcoming environment in which to eat, drink and socialise. From a tasty healthy breakfast to a wholesome lunchtime meal and dessert, we cater for all tastes and are only too happy to offer takeaway food and snacks. And if the café is closed you can still come in and enjoy a Ringtons coffee, tea or hot chocolate and a snack at any time of the day.

The Exchange @ Howdon Charity Shop
Our long-standing enterprise The Exchange is one of our social enterprises operating under our SPACE unit (Supporting and Promoting the Acceleration of Community Enterprise). We take donations of good quality clothing and household items and distributes them to local families in crisis across North Tyneside, South Tyneside and Northumberland.
We have now opened our new Charity Shop in Howdon, Wallsend where we sell surplus good quality clothing and toys at prices below those in high street charity shops. All proceeds go to support families and children in local areas who are struggling. Come along to browse and bag yourself a bargain by buying clothes, toys, bric-a-brac and other household goods.
We also regularly sell locally made crafts and gifts.
We have a schedule of pop up shops and markets in local communities too and all proceeds go to supporting local families in poverty or disadvantage – literally every penny helps.

Volunteering at the Howdon Hub
We want the people of North Tyneside and specifically local Howdon families to feel that the Hub is their place. We want them to have a real say in what happens there and in how it develops and is protected. To do that we need local people to help us by volunteering in a number of capacities, whether it be to help with the garden area, decorate, help with minor DIY, volunteer in the café, run groups or be part of the management committee.
Without the input of the local community the Hub will not function as a community asset and it is important to us that activities and developments are informed by local people.
If you feel you have something to offer or would like to volunteer contact us at email@example.com or call us on 0191 6437955 or simply call in and have a chat.
