Under our Improving Futures programme, we’ve been working with some primary school children who lost their dad.
The school in the programme had a sibling group who had experienced a bereavement and were subsequently struggling. As support is limited in Northumberland, we agreed to provide low level intervention in the short term.
During our eight weeks of work, we discussed their loss at length and provided positive coping strategies to help them.
We spent a lot of time talking to the children and mum about their memories of dad and created these fantastic memory jars together, the idea being that they’d remember a happy time that they had together whenever they felt sad. They did a fabulous job 😍
“We’ve put resources in place to help the family after the in-school support ends. We are hoping to offer more support around bereavement in schools in the future which would be great!”
